Welcome to a New Season – U13 / U15 / U18 Goaltenders

Hello U13 / U15 / U18 LMHA Goalies,

I am very excited to write to you and welcome you to a NEW season. I look forward to the opportunity to help our organization grow and accomplish some great things over the coming years. We are preparing for a jam-packed season with as close to “normal” play as possible. We will continue to follow our PHO and viaSport guidelines regarding COVID-19. The projected next phase is hoping for great news in September 2021 regarding our season. We have planned our recreation & competitive beginning of the Season Assessments keeping the player’s best interest in mind.

Starting soon, the Goalie Assessments for Competitive (Rep) will include goalies participating in 5 on-ice sessions. During the U13 – U18 Rep Evaluations, Skaters will participate in a ‘Combine’ like session first. Goaltenders participating in Rep Evaluations do not attend the Combine. Goalies will have a session designed and run specifically for them to demonstrate their position specific abilities. Skaters and Goalies will participate in three scrimmage games as part of Phase 1. Skaters will be divided into teams and will play a series of scrimmages. Goalies will be assigned to ice times, not teams, on a fair rotation. We have included a few more specific details below with more details to follow shortly!

In previous years, the Rep Evaluation process started with the goalie session. This season, I am having the goalies start with the skaters for an on-ice practice session (skills & small area sessions) on August 28th.  I want our goaltenders to have the opportunity to get on the ice with their peers, getting used to the shooters and the pace of play in their division before the microscopic evaluation of their goalie skills session.  I feel our goalies will perform better and have more confidence going into their skills session on the 29th of August.  Goalies will then participate in three scrimmages.  There will be one rest day on August 31st and then all players will be back on the ice on Sep 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. Please plan to be available for all of these dates. There will be no ice on September 4th, 5th, or 6th in lieu of the long weekend.  LMHA will be posting the master schedule shortly.

Recreational (House) Goalies will start their assessments mid September. All goalies will have an opportunity to play several games demonstrating their ability to play the game at their level in the recreational stream. House athletes will be assessed based on overall ability.

This season, we have an opportunity in our U11 Recreational stream to have players declare interest in a part-time Goalie rotation. We are working to create more availability for young players to try new positions. LMHA is working to gain equipment that we can assign for players to use in their exploration of playing goalie.  If you have any gently used goalie equipment which you would like to donate, please click HERE for more information.

Thank you for being a part of Langley Minor Hockey. We are very proud of our members and the accomplishments they achieve along the way.  Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the Summer. If you have any questions, please email me directly: executivedirector@langleyminorhockey.ca
