Underdogs finish on top to win midget title

The underdog heading in, it was the Langley Hawks who came out on top at the end.
The Hawks captured the Langley Cup midget championship on Sunday at the Langley Events Centre, defeating LangleyLY6 3-2.
It was also payback for the Hawks as two days prior, that same team knocked them off to advance straight to the final, while the Hawks were forced to play one more game to qualify.
They finished with a 3-1 record, with the final three all decided by one goal.
“We viewed ourselves as the underdog in each of those games,” said coach Tim Berman, whose team was the fourth seed.
“(And) the challenge brought out the best in our players and the coaching staff (Berman, Dave Cesarone and Guy Cloutier) believe the last two games our players achieved their personal best ever efforts. which was the difference in the end.”
At the start of the season, one of the stated goals was to win the Langley Cup.
“We knew we had a great group of players which should gel well together and we had the possibility of having a good season so our goals were set relatively high,” Berman said.
While the team did gel together and were great to coach, they did experience some highs and lows in beating some of the league’s best teams, but also losing to some of the lesser-lights.
“It was very satisfying seeing the hard work and determination pay off and as these players move on into their careers, I hope they can take those lessons with them,” Berman said.
