Hitmen work OT for Cup
An overtime goal gave the Langley Hitmen the Langley Cup championship.
The Hitmen edged the Langley Chiefs 4-3 in the bantam championship game on Sunday at the Langley Events Centre.
Winning the Langley Cup was not much of a surprise, according to coach Andy Hudson.
“We knew we had a talented group of kids from the beginning,” Hudson said, adding that good attendance at practices and great attitudes were major reasons behind the team’s success.
“We are quick paced and high tempo with emphasis on skating speed,” he said.
“Our game plan was to out-skate and out-pass the other team and to have strongback-checking.”
The Langley Cup championship is not the only feather in the Hitmen’s cap.
In addition to capturing the regular season title, they won the Burnaby Winter tournament, and also finished second at a Seattle tournament and second in the league playoffs.
The Hitmen finished the season 36-5.
