Dawgz have their day once again
When asked what chances he would have given his team to win their second consecutive Langley Cup at the start of the season, Langley Ice Dawgz coach Steve Pitt said one in eight.
After all, after winning the peewee title the season before, the Ice Dawgz only had three returning players, so with eight teams in the chase for the Cup, Pitt figured his team had as good a chance as any.
And on Sunday, at the Langley Events Centre, the Ice Dawgz completed a 4-0 run through the Langley Cup playoffs, to hoist the championship Cup once again.
The team defeated the Langley Snipers 3-2 in a shootout.
“The team put everything together really well,” Pitt said, referring to gold in a pair of tournaments (Bremerton and Princeton), a divisional banner, and now a Langley Cup title.
Overall, the team finished 34-4-6,including winning all four Langley Cup games.
The team was balanced from top to bottom along the roster, and was responsible defensively, which led to their offensive opportunities.
The Ice Dawgz needed some late-game heroics just to make it to the championship final, as well.
The team found itself trailing 4-1with under four minutes remaining in regulation during the semifinal against the Langley Edge.
But the Ice Dawgz scored four unanswered goals, including a pair short-handed, to win 5-4 in regulation.
